Journalist, and Schindler’s List Facilitator, Ulrich Sahm Endorses Weed Out Hate Initiative

ULRICH-SAHM

ULRICH SAHM

Marc Daniels, Lawn and Garden industry insider and campaign director of the Weed Out Hate Initiative, traveled to Jerusalem on Tuesday, September 7th to solicit the support of noted international correspondent Ulrich Sahm, one of the most respected members of the International Press Corps in Israel.  ”As an intermediary who helped facilitate the transfer of the historic Schindler’s lists to the Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum in Jerusalem, and as a keen observer of Mideast politics, Sahm understands the ramifications of individuals unwilling to confront their prejudices… the inner weeds of hate,” says Daniels.

According to Sahm, “Dr. Martin Luther King’s ‘I Have a Dream’ speech was a watershed moment in the Civil Rights movement.” Daniels took these words to heart as he amplified King’s vision through his newly founded Weed Out Hate Initiative.  Extracting a weed, roots and all, empowers even the smallest child to perform a cathartic act from within, as well as in the garden. Multiply this effect by ten million and society can begin to touch upon the inner ecology of spirit. This representative act is a language every child understands and an experience they will never forget. It can be their contribution to a better world.”

Sahm added, “So many events symbolize the weeds from seeds of hatred: 9/11, the reaction to the Danish cartoons in the Muslim world, and more recently the ‘suspended’ plans by Pastor Terry Jones to burn the Koran at the Dove World Outreach Center in Gainesville, Florida.”

A Garden Writer’s 9/11 Civic Prayer for the Nation

While attending the 62nd Annual Garden Writers Association in Dallas, Texas this weekend, Daniels will challenge association members to take gardening reporting and stewardship to the next level. In prepared remarks he will articulate his prayer for the nation on September 11, inspired by Dr. King’s vision:

“I have a dream that the people of New York, the people of this country, and the people of the world can shift their gaze from lower Manhattan, uptown to Central Park.  Let us dream that all the world’s children descend upon the Sheep Meadow and together, like lion and lamb, weed out hate for themselves and for the rest of us. As they weed out their seeds of hate, and as they cultivate our great park, may their weed heaps of hatred grow into hillocks of hope, and may their knolls of knowledge mature into mountains of righteousness — monuments of virtue so grand that they will surpass the heights of the Twin Towers themselves. Let these mountains of hope demonstrate our resolve — first to ourselves and then to those who would attempt to destroy us — that such an outpouring of communal goodwill would send an unforgettable message that they cannot and will not win. Then and only then, will the soil of our Promised Land be fertile enough to block any weed and deter any worm that would desecrate the fruits of our connections with Nature and our own inner being.  Let freedom ring, let’s weed out hate, let freedom ring.”

Scott Kay Featured as Exclusive Men's Jewelry Designer at New York Fashion Week

Men’s fine fashion jewelry has broken new ground.  The former dormant category has awoken to dramatic consumer demand and is now billed as a true fashion accessory by jewelry artisan Scott Kay and Couture, the premiere fine jewelry industry event, through New York Fashion Week.  From September 9th to the 16th, 2010, Scott Kay will be the exclusive men’s jewelry on display by Couture inside the tents of New York Fashion Week at its new home of Lincoln Center.

In the midst of one of the most difficult economic times the jewelry industry has ever endured, Scott Kay (credited as America’s best sold luxury, designer bridal brand and a pioneer in men’s fashion jewelry) will help guide the jewelry industry to newfound heights.

Scott Kay will be the exclusive men’s jewelry proudly featured in the bold new Accessories Presentation built into the main rotunda of the New York Fashion Week tents of Lincoln Center…the must-pass bustling entrance to the runway presentations of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, an event produced by IMG.

“Jewelry’s marriage to fashion is long overdue, and the integration of Scott Kay designs into the tents of New York Fashion Week is the ideal representation of the Scott Kay lifestyle brand,” noted Lee Arevian, Business Development Director for Couture.  ”We are pleased to showcase the artistry of Scott Kay to represent men’s fine fashion jewelry due to his well received debut of ‘Art of Man’ at Couture two years ago and his constant devotion to the art of fine jewelry creation.”

Consumers agree.  In every market Scott Kay introduces the “Art of Man” collection, his hand-carved and crafted designs sell out and the demand continues to increase.  Examples of this success are within every Saks Fifth Avenue major market, including three dominant displays in New York City’s Saks, hundreds of men’s specialty shops and independent fine jewelry stores worldwide.

Dan Scott, CMO of Scott Kay stated, “Our recent success in the men’s category includes strong digital awareness and sales at scottkay.saks.com, cufflinks.com and considerable growth in Canada, the Caribbean, and overseas brick and mortar.  We can’t think of better partners than the Couture Jewelry Show and New York’s Fashion Week to share our most recent men’s lifestyle success.”

“Scott Kay is not a bridal company.  We are not a fashion company.  We are a lifestyle brand.  The Couture display inside the tents of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week is the perfect modern vehicle to celebrate that fact,” added Dan Scott, CMO, Scott Kay, Inc.  September’s Vogue, Gioiello also offers a cover story on the success of Scott Kay, a perfectly timed editorial for this milestone event.

Red Bull Flugtag Flies Through Philadelphia

Red Bull Flugtag

Red Bull Flugtag in Philadelphia

Philadelphians came out in droves to check out the skies above the Delaware River swarm with homemade flying machines this Labor Day Weekend.  Lining both sides of the water and even prowling the Ben Franklin Bridge, Red Bull Flugtag fans were in full force to cheer on the fearless crews as they braved the remaining gusts of Hurricane Earl in their quest for a flying victory.

Flying clocks, crash test dummies and a dodo bird were among the 32 crafts that took flight off the 26-foot flight deck in front of 85,000 people.  The winner, team Giant Flying Llama took first place with their baseball-inspired hat and uniforms that ignited the Philly crowd and a flight of 42 feet.  Second was a Philly favorite, the Liberty Bell inspired team Let Freedom Wing.  Team BUMBLE, whose Christmas theme was slightly out of season, finished third.  Bringing the People’s Choice Award back to the Garden State, the crowd went cuckoo for Five Guys One Clock.

Team spirit reverberated throughout the waterfront as first place winner Giant Flying Llama and People’s Choice Five Guys One Clock all brought posses of t-shirt totting team supporters. Team pilot Justin Myers admitted that “We were going for a graceful flight but this was unexpected. Taking the top was amazing. The heart and pride that went into it reflected through our fans.” For claiming first place, team Giant Flying Llama will be headed to Arizona for a flight with Red Bull Air Race World Champion, Kirby Chambliss, at his “Flying Crown Ranch.”

Red Bull Flugtag, which means “flying day” in German, is a competition that dares both the brave and the brainy to design, build and pilot homemade flying machines off a 30-foot high ramp in hopes of achieving human-powered flight.  While distance was definitely important, the crafts were also judged on two other criteria –creativity and showmanship – by a panel of celebrity judges including Preston and Steve from 93.3 WMMR-FM, Red Bull Athlete and Professional Drift Car Driver Ryan Tuerck, Red Bull Athlete and Professional Lacrosse Player Paul Rabil, along with Philly’s own Betsy Ross and Ben Franklin (wink wink).

The first Red Bull Flugtag was held in Vienna in 1991. Since then, more than 80 Red Bull Flugtags have been held around the world – from London to San Francisco – attracting up to 300,000 spectators at one event!  The international flight distance record now stands at 207 feet and was just set in Minneapolis/St. Paul on July 24, 2010, after having stood for eight years!  This is the fourth and final Red Bull Flugtag event in the US this summer after stops in Miami, Long Beach and Minneapolis/St. Paul.  Red Bull Flugtag Philadelphia will also be featured in a reality series called “On the Wings of Glory” airing this Sunday – check your local listings.

While the teams let their imaginations soar, there were still a few rules in the sky.  First off, all flying machines had to be entirely human-powered (no external energy sources or stored power).  And, no matter what they say, size does matter, as all crafts had to weigh no more than 450 lbs (including the pilot).

I met Quentin Tarantino at the BET 25th Anniversary after party. I didn’t even know who he was. I just remember seeing all these people next to him like Nelly and Jermaine Dupri. My publicist at the time informed me of his status and how he was a famous movie director. She thought it would be a great idea to introduce us. He had a cocky look to him. I watched as everybody swarmed around him debating if I wanted to meet him or not. I didn’t have time for another Industry person to get my hopes up and feed me lies. When she first introduced us I was on my ghetto tip. I didn’t feel like being super polite. I didn’t care who he actually was you know the famous Hollywood director that really don’t feel like talking to you, but will converse with you for a minute so you can get the out they face. I just kept it real with him. “Look Quentin is your name right? well I don’t have time to sit and talk with you if you really ain’t trying to talk to me. I’m a single mother with 2 kids, I go to school , I really got to work hard and Imma great actress, so if you cant try me out for a movie role then you wasting my time.” He looked at me and said …

Cheer® Gives Aspiring Actress Her Dream Walk-On Role on CBS’s ‘As the World Turns’

PROCTER-GAMBLE-AUDITION-WINNER

PROCTER-GAMBLE-AUDITION-WINNER

Procter & Gamble (NYSE: PG) is proud to announce California native Jennifer Jean as the winner of “Brighten Bay Idol,” an online talent search for the next bright star! The talent search, kicked off in January, invited aspiring actors to log on to BrightenBay.com to send in their audition tapes for an opportunity to win a walk-on role on the popular CBS soap series, “As the World Turns.”  Jennifer was named the lucky audition winner when she “wow-ed” voters with her amazing talent.  After beating out the competition and becoming the next bright spot in a dingy world, Jennifer will now have a guest-starring appearance in one of the final episodes of “As the World Turns” later this summer.

“Never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined that my favorite detergent brand, Cheer, would help catapult my acting career,” said Jennifer. “But starring in one of the final episodes of ‘As the World Turns’ is definitely going to be a turning point for me.  I’m so grateful to all of the voters who chose my audition tape and can’t thank Cheer and ‘Brighten Bay Idol’ enough! I am, without a doubt, on my way to becoming the next sparkling star!”

A former schoolteacher, Jennifer got her start in acting after her husband signed her up for her first adult acting class. Since then, she’s starred in a national television commercial, an independent film and onstage in countless improv and sketch shows.  She is also currently starring in a hit interactive show in Los Angeles.  Now, with the recent news that “As the World Turns” will be ending its longtime run in September 2010, Jennifer is excited to take advantage of the rare, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to become part of soap history by joining the cast during its last season.  She will star in the August 30th episode, airing on CBS, as Nurse Greta.

Along with filming for one of the final episodes, Jennifer also won a trip to New York City and received an exclusive, behind-the scenes tour of the “As the World Turns” set.

“We were all blown away by Jennifer’s performance and are excited to help develop her acting career,” said Tara Murphy, Cheer brand manager.  ”Brighten Bay’s Idol search was a fun audition that allowed us to provide aspiring actors with a forum to reach for their dreams.  We aim to help people truly ‘sparkle,’ particularly through the bright clean benefit Cheer provides for clothing, and now with the opportunity to be a part of history during the final season of ‘As the World Turns’.”

The audition was part of the “Brighten Bay” Cheer soap campaign, created to brighten laundry routines and also communicate the affordable price for Cheer.  The campaign, which was inspired by daytime dramas, featured storylines and webisodes set in Brighten Bay, a colorful community with ongoing drama between its neighbors.
