SportsMetriX System Linked to NCAA Tournament Upsets

The unprecedented number of upsets in last season’s NCAA tournament was no coincidence. SportsMetriX software was the one common link that helped Butler, Northern Iowa, Murray State, Baylor, and Cornell for preparing pregame reports for their opponents. Sienna and Montana almost pulled off monumental upsets, too! SportsMetriX’s Basketball Scout software was used by 40 NCAA Div. I teams last year and consistently provided a 5-25 point swing.

SportsMetriX.net is making this software available to all sports fans and media to provide a real fantasy basketball experience by accurately comparing any team or player in the NCAA or NBA. This technology recognizes that all traditional game statistics and season statistics are tainted … since they depend on WHO you play. Teams don’t really know if they have a poor perimeter defense or if they just face good 3 Pt shooting teams.

Basketball Scout provides accurate performance metrics that account for WHO you play … so coaches and players can quickly identify their strengths and weaknesses to focus on areas that have the greatest impact.

According to Dr. Greg Rahn, President of GeneMetriX, “Every team has its own unique personality and recipe for success. It’s fun to discover the weaknesses of opponents, then formulate game plans to exploit those weaknesses.” Fans could have pregame strategy contests before every NBA or NCAA game. Basketball Scout also provides a postgame report which shows WHY teams won or lost the game. SportsMetriX unlocks a new realm of discussion topics for sports enthusiasts.

“Everybody wants our pregame reports and our postgame reports, especially for the NCAA tournament,” says Dr. Rahn. “With only one day of preparation, opponents don’t stand a chance.”

Ryan Dant

Terminal at 4-years-old, Triumphant at 22, Ryan Dant to Watch His Hero Nolan Ryan and His Beloved Rangers Take on Giants in Game 3

Ryan Dant wasn’t supposed to be a 22-year-old. Or an 18-year-old. Or even a 12-year-old.

At three-and-a-half, the little boy who loved baseball and Nolan Ryan and his Texas Rangers in particular was told, along with his parents Mark and Jeanne, that he wouldn’t make it past 10 and that his brief life likely would be filled with physical pain and emotional trauma. Mucopolysaccharidosis (MPS 1), a rare genetic disorder that affects only 1,000 people globally would ravage his body, his doctors said.

But that was before Ryan, Mark and Jeanne crossed paths with two very important men, both superstars in their field. Nolan Ryan, the future Hall of Fame Rangers’ pitcher and Dr. Emil Kakkis, a physician who would surely find himself in the Medical Research Hall of Fame, if there was such as thing.

The pitcher nourished the young boy’s soul. The doctor nourished his body.

In 1992, when Dant was 4-years-old, he got to meet his hero, Nolan Ryan. He exchanged autographs with Dant.

“After Nolan gave him an autographed ball, he noticed another ball in Ryan’s hands,” Mark recalled. “Nolan said, ‘can I have your autograph?’”

Ryan Dant then scribbled on the ball and handed it over to his hero, now the president of the Rangers. “He was four and his writing skills weren’t all that good,” Mark said, clearly cherishing the memory. “But Nolan received it with a big smile.”

Saturday Dant, now 22-years-old and living life to its fullest will, along with his father, be sitting in section 15, row 5, seats 3 and 4 at the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington to watch Nolan Ryan’s team take the field in Game 3 of the World Series. Many diehard Rangers fans thought they’d never live to see this day. No one thought Dant would live to see this day either, or any of the others during the past dozen-or-so years. No one, that is, except Dant, his father, mother and his doctor, Emil Kakkis, M.D.

After their son’s diagnosis, Mark and Jeanne Dant created the Ryan Foundation for MPS Children to raise awareness and funding for research.

“We had a bake sale and raised $342,” Mark said, recalling their first fund raising effort. Since then their foundation has raised $3 million.

The result of all that funding has been the development of the drug Aldurazyme. It’s the difference between life and death for Ryan and many other children.

At 10, very near his life expectancy according to the original MPS 1 diagnosis, Ryan received his first treatment of Aldurazyme from Dr. Kakkis. Soon Ryan was tossing a baseball with his Dad again.

“The word miracle gets tossed around pretty freely these days,” Mark said. “But this is a miracle. Ryan isn’t supposed to be here.”

But he is here. And he’ll be at the ballpark Saturday night. Just check out section 15.

Snowboarder-Shaun-White

Oakley and Shaun White present Air & Style Snowboarding

The 2010/2011 snowboard season is starting with a big bang: The legendary snowboard contest Air & Style is coming to Beijing, People’s Republic of China, with the 6-star Swatch TTR World Snowboard Tour event “Oakley and Shaun White present Air & Style Beijing 2010″ on December 4, 2010, at the Olympic Sports Center Stadium, venue of the Olympic football tournament at Beijing Olympic Games 2008. The event is being held with the full support from Beijing Sports and Beijing government.

Unique mix of top sports and top music

This is the first time ever that world-class contest snowboarding is coming to China, with the superstars of snowboarding competing for the famous Air & Style Ring of Glory, the world’s most valuable trophy in snowboarding. “The Oakley and Shaun White present Air & Style Beijing 2010″ is presenting a unique mix of top sports and top live music acts to the Chinese public, perfectly tailored for celebrating the lifestyle of young people. With its cool and stylish reputation the Air & Style has become the world’s premier snowboarding event.

Great combination: Shaun White and Air & Style

With the world’s most legendary contest Air & Style and snowboarding’s global superstar Shaun White, two-time Olympic Gold medalist and Air & Style winner, teaming up for a snowboarding event, the expected 15,000 spectators on-site and millions on the internet and on TV should already now get ready for great sports, great entertainment, great fn and a great party.

16 of the world’s best snowboarders, with top riders such as Scotty Lago, Andreas Wiig or Peetu Piiroinen already confirmed, will drop off from the 42m tall inrun to perform breathtaking tricks over the gigantic straight jump — competing for the prize money of US-$100,000 and 1,000 points in the TTR world ranking and the famous Air & Style ring of glory.

Air & Style: The world’s premier snowboarding event

With its roots going back to 1993, Air & Style has become the world’s most traditional and renowned snowboard contest, having drawn as many as 30,000 people to watch the sports’ best athletes. It was at the Air & Style contests in 2003 and 2004 in Austria where Shaun White won his first major contest. From there on his career path went all the way to win two consecutive Olympic gold medals and substantially define the tremendous progression the sport of snowboarding has experienced over the past years.

Related leaders of Beijing Municipal Bureau of Sport said that the World Snowboard Tour Beijing brought by “Air & Style” is the first time for Beijing to hold the world top-class snowboard events, and also the first large-scale outdoor winter sport event in Beijing. It will be one of the major sports event brands in Beijing and will promote the development of China’s outdoor winter sports. It is an epoch marking sporting festival. Beijing Municipal Bureau of Sport will pay close attention to, cooperate actively with and provide full support to this event, ensuring the smooth operation of this World Snowboard Tour Beijing 2010.

International Olympic Committee executive Gerhard Heiberg said: “After the promotion, participation and witness of the success of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, I was so honored and excited to help materialize the introduction of 2010 Air & Style to Beijing, which will bring China a world winter sport event. I expect Air & Style will open the curtain of China’s top- class winter sports programs! And I hope this will push forward the flourishing of outdoor winter sports in China. Beijing has a long winter and it is appropriate to hold the winter sports programs here. I also hope that in the future, Beijing will be in the list of the cities that apply for the hosting of the Winter Olympic Games!”

Andrew Hourmont said: “Having worked for almost two years to make this happen, we are now extremely proud to be the first ones to bring the best snowboarding in the world to China. Only through our organisation’s hard work and our close collaboration with the Beijing authorities and their dedication to bring Air & Style to China, this event is being made possible. It again proves the strength of the Air & Style brand in the world of young sports events. China can look forward to a fantastic event, which will again push forward the level of competitive snowboarding.”

Bobby Orr Told Parents and kids that Hockey is About Having Fun

Bobby Orr - Chevrolet Safe & Fun Hockey in Montreal

Bobby Orr, the Hockey Hall of Famer legend of the Boston Bruins, told a crowd of children, parents and adults associated with hockey, that hockey is all about having fun, and not just about making it to the NHL. Too many parents are pressuring their children and they are taking the fun out of hockey for them.

“A kid should never leave a ball field or an ice rink feeling bad about himself or herself,” Orr said. “If a kid isn’t enjoying himself, he’s not going to stay.” Bobby said. “Minor hockey should never be a bad experience for any kid, regardless of his or her ability. Putting pressure on them, humiliating them will only push them away from the game.”

“What we’re doing here is not only trying to develop players, we’re trying to develop fans,” Orr said before joining the kids on the ice. “We want our kids to love our game. If they’re turned off the game, they’re not going to be buying caps and jerseys, so there are bigger issues at play here.”

Sponsored by Chevrolet  Canada, Bobby Orr is in Montreal running his Chevrolet Safe & Fun Hockey program, which started in 1999. Over 60,000 players, ranging from age 5 to 8, have participated. The message of the program is that hockey should be fun, not just about winning, and definitely not about making it to the NHL.

He always remembers what his father had taught him, “Go out and have fun and we will see what happens.”

U.S. Children Will Exercise From Coast To Coast

Kids Exercise

In a unique attempt toward the fight against childhood obesity, children in the United States are going to exercise for ten continuous hours on Thursday, October 7, 2010 in the second annual Exercise US, or Exercise United States day. As stated in US News & World Report referring to the Exercise US program – - “In a unique attempt to fight childhood obesity and cuts being made to school physical education programs, elementary, middle, and high schools from New York to Hawaii and Alaska have signed on to a newfangled “fitness relay” event.”

The concept in very simple – - Beginning at 8:00 am (est.), a school in New Jersey will exercise from 8:00 – 8:15 am. When their prearranged time slot is over, a school in New York will begin their prepared exercise session from 8:15 – 8:30 am. Once an organized 15-minute time allotment ends, another location will pick up where the last school or organization left off. This pattern will continue for 10 hours until the last time slot is filled at 3:00 pm (pst.). Schools have been signing up for their 15 minute time slots since early May.

Len Saunders, a physical education teacher in New Jersey, and author of Keeping Kids Fit (LaChance Publishing, NY), created the Exercise US event. Saunders is also the creator of Project ACES (www.projectaces.com), which has motivated millions of children to exercise over the last 20 years.

According to Saunders, “this could be the first generation of children whose life expectancy may be shorter than their parents. With the rise is type 2 diabetes and other health related diseases associated with obesity, children need motivational techniques that get them to exercise.” Saunders is thrilled to introduce this new program on a national level. To learn more about the Exercise US program in greater detail, or to see the list of schools that have signed up to participate, visit the Exercise US web site at: http://www.uskidsworkout.com

JD Mobley Wins 2010 Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup With Back-to-Back Wins in Mexico

Volkswagen-America-JD Mobley

JD Mobley celebrates after winning the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup title.

It was JD Mobley’s weekend, as the 19-year old led every lap run in the Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup Series’ debut at Autodromo Internacional Miguel E. Abed in Amozoc, Mexico.  With his second wire-to-wire victory this afternoon, Mobley also clinches the 2010 Jetta TDI Cup title, on the strength of two wins, two poles and seven top-five appearances this season.

“What a fantastic weekend,” said Mobley after the race.  ”I came to Mexico in fifth place in the Championship, so I knew I had my work cut out for myself.  Everything seemed to fall into place and things just went perfectly.  On the restart this afternoon, I made sure to stay calm and patient and make sure I drove with a level head.  I did just that and it worked out for me, as I was able to keep the lead and go on to win the race.  It’s a great feeling to be the Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup Champion and after this weekend, it just goes to show – it’s never over until the final lap.”

Series rookie, Wyatt Gooden finished the race in second and in doing so, earned Rookie of the Year honors for the 2010 season.  Puebla native, Juan Pablo Sierra Lendle finished third, marking his second podium result of the weekend at his home track.  Orizaba, Mexico native Juan Pablo Delgado was right behind Sierra Lendle in fourth place and rookie Kevin Gleason rounds out the top-five.

After ten races this year, Mobley sits at the top of the point standings with 343 points.  Sierra Lendle finished the season in second place with 322 points and Gooden came in third in his rookie year with 316 points.  Just one point behind Gooden, was another rookie, Jarvis Gennari who finished tenth in today’s race and series veteran, Jake Thompson earned a fifth place finish in the Championship.  Gleason finished sixth in the overall point standings and third in the rookie point standings.

“It’s been a great season,” said Clark Campbell, Motorsports Manager, Volkswagen of America, Inc.  ”I think this was the most competitive field we’ve had and we’ve seen ultra competitive racing at every event. Our goal of developing young up-and-coming talent has certainly come to fruition.  Congratulations to JD (Mobley) for a tremendous weekend; he kept his composure despite all of the pressure and he absolutely deserves the Series title. All of the racecars used this season were produced at the Volkswagen factory just miles from the track in Puebla, so it’s definitely fitting that the city was able to host the Jetta TDI Cup’s season finale in Mexico.”
